      1. The Founding of the Hmong Church<\/strong><\/p>\n

      1.1 \u2013 In 1953<\/strong>, an OMF missionary began to share the Gospel with Hmong people in Tak province of Thailand, in the village of Huaynamlueang.\u00a0 The missionary, Otto Scheuzer, is named Ajarn Lotua in the Hmong language.\u00a0 In October of that year, there were five families who trusted Christ.\u00a0 In two months time, another nine families became Christians.\u00a0 But within about three months time a problem arose.\u00a0 A group of Hmong people who had fled from Laos and moved to the area began spreading the rumor that Western people were cannibals who liked to eat people.\u00a0 This caused nine of the new Christian families to be afraid and turn back to appeasing spirits and worshipping their ancestors as they had previously.<\/p>\n

      1.2 \u2013 In 1954<\/strong>, two missionary families, the Ermie-Heimbaeh and Don Rulison families, working in Petchabun and Phitsanulok provinces led many White Hmong families to faith in Christ.<\/p>\n

      1.3 \u2013 From 1955-1960<\/strong>, a Church of Christ missionary named Carland Bare led two or three people to Christ in the village of Kanghu, in the ThungChang district of Nan province.<\/p>\n

      Summary \u2013 <\/strong>The Gospel of Christ came to the Hmong people for the first time in 1953, for about the last 61 years.<\/p>\n

      2. The First Generation of Bible College Students<\/strong><\/p>\n

      From 1969-1971 there were about nine Hmong believers, some single, some married with chidren, who offered themselves to the Lord to study at Phayao Bible College.\u00a0 After studying the Bible, these graduates began serving with OMF missionaries in evangelism and church leadership, the fruit of their labors being continual growth in the Hmong church until present day.<\/p>\n

      3. The History of the ACT Hmong District<\/strong><\/p>\n

      3.1 – In 1978<\/strong>, the Hmong churches first met together as a district of ACT, and elected the first board of directors.<\/p>\n

      3.2 \u2013 In 1981, <\/strong>the Hmong district of ACT agreed to call themselves \u201ccov ntseeg mob sws koom teg huv thaib teb\u201d which is abbreviated as \u201cS.K.T.\u201d and means \u201cJoining Hands Together.\u201d<\/p>\n

      3.3 \u2013 In 1988, <\/strong>the Hmong ACT district rented a house to serve as headquarters and office in the Muang district of Chiang Mai province.<\/p>\n

      3.4 \u2013 In 1992, <\/strong>on the 10th<\/sup> of March, the Hmong district was able to purchase a house with some land to serve as the district office through the offerings of some OMF missionaries, Christians in America and Canada, Hmong Christians in Thailand, as well as Hmong Christians in the Refugee Center of Loei Province. The building and land purchased at that time is the office located at 32\/3 M. 4, T. Donkaew, A. Maerim, Chiang Mai province.<\/p>\n

      4. The Division of the ACT Hmong Group into Five Sub-Districts<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Area 1 \u2013 <\/strong>Chiang Mai and Lampang provinces, and the zone of Wiangpapao district of Chiang Rai province.<\/p>\n

      Area 2 \u2013<\/strong> Phayao, Nan, and Phrae provinces.<\/p>\n

      Area 3 \u2013 <\/strong>Maehongson province.<\/p>\n

      6.1\u00a0 <\/strong>The Hmong district of ACT is happy to partner with various organizations, ministry groups, and individuals of similar faith and doctrine which are willing to submit to the constitution of ACT.\u00a0 Partners must have the same goals as ACT, which is to care for and watch over the spiritual life of people, share the Gospel, and to lead souls to Christ following the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19).<\/p>\n

      6.2<\/strong>\u00a0 The Hmong district of ACT has goals to begin mission work in other countries as well as Thailand.<\/p>\n

      7. \u00a0The Translation of the Hmong Bible<\/strong><\/p>\n

      7.1<\/strong>\u00a0 In 1965 a Hmong person and a missionary began to translate the Bible at the village of Khao Kho in Phetchabun province.\u00a0 But in 1966 the two people split up, and the translation work stopped as it became apparent that the two could not work together.\u00a0 The missionary went to Laos and found two different Hmong people to join in the work of translation: Chaeng Sasong and Grandmother Naeng Saher.\u00a0 The Hmong person who had formerly worked with the missionary was still zealous and determined to translate the Bible into the Hmong language from the Thai Bible, so worked alone on this project.<\/p>\n

      7.2<\/strong>\u00a0 In 1973 there were two Hmong people who came to help check the language of the translation work, as well as an OMF missionary named Ted, who came to help with the Bible\u2019s original languages.\u00a0 Thus the translation work went on for not even one year, and then these two Hmong people left, and did not continue in the translation work.\u00a0 The reason these two left was that they accused the main missionary translator of not allowing them to fix certain language problems.\u00a0 The missionary and the two Hmong people who received criticism had a difficult time in the work.\u00a0 The missionary who helped with Hebrew and English languages asked the two Hmong checkers to use Hmong language which was correct following the true Biblical meanings, but the Hmong people did not submit to follow the missionary\u2019s suggestions, and so they found they could not work together.\u00a0 The missionary had told the Hmong helpers that in translating the Bible they would need to follow the standard established system of Bible translation, but these helpers would not submit to follow the system, claiming that many people had many kinds of problems, so they could not continue the work.<\/p>\n

      As for the missionary involved in translating the Hmong Bible, he was called to return to help oversee translation work with the Thai Bible Society in Bangkok.\u00a0 The Hmong translators continued pouring themselves into translating from the Thai Bible into the Hmong language until they completed a translation of Genesis.\u00a0 Then a Japanese missionary brought the Hmong translator\u2019s version of Genesis to the Bible Society for printing; but upon inspection, they refused to print this translation, because the Hmong translators had not followed the society\u2019s standards.\u00a0 So the Japanese missionary financed the printing himself, found a Christian printer in Bangkok, and had 2,000 copies printed.\u00a0 The missionary sent the Hmong version of Genesis out to Christian leaders for them to sell to Hmong Christians to use, but they were unable to sell them.\u00a0 This version of Genesis proved to be unpopular and not widely used, because it was the writing and content of only one person and was full of mistakes.\u00a0 So hardly anyone purchased this copy of Genesis.\u00a0 In the end, these books were thrown out; nobody wanted or saved them.\u00a0 The Japanese missionary felt very badly about this, because he had invested about 20,000 baht.\u00a0 He went away empty handed, having decided not to do anything like that again, saying it was a waste of money.<\/p>\n

      7.3<\/strong>\u00a0 In 1976-1977 OMF hosted a training on Bible translation for six days at Phayao Bible College, but the Hmong Christians of that time also did not like to submit to the standardized translation system which the training was promoting.<\/p>\n

      7.4<\/strong>\u00a0 The final version of the Hmong Bible was finally completed in 2004 because of a group of translators who were pleased to follow the standards of translation required by the Bible Society.\u00a0 This translation group all worked together, and it included: three OMF missionaries who helped translate from the original languages, Rev. Lanaeng Chomphusiri, and many Hmong Christian leaders.\u00a0 During the process, some translators realized they did not want to be a part of it because they did not like translation work, while other Hmong leaders faced disciplinary action or suspension because of time taken away from their church ministries.\u00a0 But in the end, the Lord helped the translation work to be finished successfully.<\/p>\n
